How to Use a Quick Design Sprint Guide In 1 minute

This is a Quick Design Sprint Facilitator Guide that will help you quickly ideate solutions to your biggest problems. We could go on and on about how great it is for aligning your team and propelling you forward, but lets keep it short and sweet today as you will get to learn how to conduct a design sprint in 1 minute.

With a Design Sprint facilitator guide, we set aside a chunk of time – usually four to five days, Monday to Friday – to conduct back-to-back workshops and design/testing sessions in order to validate a product idea in a fraction of the usual time.

It was created by Jake Knapp when he was working at Google and was feeling frustrated with the lengthiness of a product’s lifecycle.

Monday

This first day of the Sprint is about problem definition and team alignment. What will we do? How do we want to approach this problem? How might we solve it? There is lots of doodling and pondering involved, and by the end of the day people tend to be excited that they’ve come together on a direction

Having a problem to solve, and some great ideas for solutions comes with a great feeling.

Tuesday

On day two, we take yesterday’s sketches and concept ideas and we turn them into something more concrete. We create a storyboard of the idea; how A leads to B, and B to C, etc. The end result is a definitive flow that will be used to inform the creation of the prototype on the next day of the Sprint.

Wednesday

It’s prototyping day! We get to take everything we decided about the product yesterday and start putting something together that looks a lot like the real thing.

The UX and UI team will work to design screen flows that can be linked together so that they appear to be a functional application.

Thursday

This is the day to refine and polish that prototype so that we can test it on real users the next day!

Friday

The last day of the Design Sprint is usability testing day. Bring in about five different people that represent your target user and test out your product with them. Watching all of these users work their way through the flow of the product will give you priceless data about its validity.

Maybe you’ll learn that your idea is flawless, maybe you’ll find that it’s great but needs some important tweaks, and it’s even possible that you’ll learn the idea is a flop that nobody finds useful.

That last possibility is no fun, but it’s better to know the bad news now than to figure it out way down the road.

A Design Sprint might help you become a millionaire by making a good idea great. It might just save you a ton of money by ruling out a bad idea quickly (after one week) rather than after spending 6 months on it! Either way, the Design Sprint is immeasurably helpful in propelling your innovation forward quickly.
